Duttapukur blast's impact evident: Decapitated body found 200 meters away from site

The aftermath of the devastating explosion that rocked an illegal firecracker factory in the Duttapukur area continues to unravel grim truths. Another heart-wrenching discovery was made on Monday morning, as rescue teams recovered yet another lifeless body from the blast site. The severity of the explosion was evident as the head of the deceased was found approximately 200 meters away from the blast epicenter.

With this grim find, the death toll stemming from the tragic incident has surged to nine, highlighting the profound impact of the blast. In a significant development, the police have also apprehended an accused in connection with the incident.

The illegal firecracker factory blast has dealt a severe blow to the community, with the body of another victim found submerged in a nearby pond. Police sources have confirmed that the situation in Moshpol of Neelganj remains calm on Monday. The discovery of a decapitated body in the pond, with the head found in a courtyard nearby, underscores the magnitude of the blast's devastation. Additional body parts, including a severed hand and two fingers, were discovered in the vicinity of the blast site.

Amidst the grim aftermath, the police toiled relentlessly throughout the night, leading to the arrest of an individual. The apprehended suspect has been identified as Safiq Ali, suspected to be a partner of Qayamat Ali, the owner of the ill-fated firecracker factory who lost his life in the blast. The factory was allegedly operated by a trio, including Safiq and Qayamat, along with Samsul, a local leader of the Trinamool Congress. The arrested accused faces charges under the Explosives Act 1884 and Explosives Rules 2008.

The explosive incident, which transpired around 8:30 AM on Sunday, had far-reaching repercussions, claiming more than just lives. The impact of the explosion led to the partial damage of over 50 nearby houses, with debris scattering across the factory premises. The owner of the illegal firecracker factory, along with his son, were among the tragic fatalities.

Authorities are grappling with the complexities of a search and investigation operation hampered by the absence of electricity in the area and the extensive debris strewn across the factory compound. Local administration and law enforcement are collaborating to employ JCB machines to dismantle the remaining portions of the illegal firecracker factory complex and clear the site of debris.

As the injured heal at Barasat Medical College, police officials provided updates on their condition. One individual remains in critical condition, while others are showing signs of improvement.
